Study: Community College Housing Program Produced Better Life Outcomes
A recent study from Education Northwest found that housing support for community college students improved graduation rates, job prospects, health, and overall well-being. The study emphasized the significance of supporting students’ housing and basic needs in higher education institutions, particularly community colleges.
The study suggests that colleges must address housing insecurity and basic needs to ensure that students can thrive academically and graduate successfully. Furthermore, it underscored the need for institutions to understand their role in supporting student success by meeting various student needs, including safe and affordable housing, food security, childcare, transportation, health support, respect and empathy, and safety. The University of Washington Tacoma has already begun implementing strategies aligned with this perspective.
