BU has a competitive transfer admissions process, but frequently has a transfer acceptance rate that is higher than the rate for first-year admissions. For example, for the fall of 2022, BU received 5,829 transfer applications and admitted 1,691 transfer students, resulting in a BU transfer acceptance rate of 29%, while the first-year admissions rate was only 19%.

Boston University Transfer Requirements
As a prospective transfer student, you must ensure that you meet BU’s criteria. You should apply as a transfer student if you’ve completed high school and have at least one full-time semester (12 or more credits) as a degree-seeking student at another college or university.
Note: Those who were previously denied admission to BU can reapply only after completing one full academic year of coursework elsewhere.

Note that transfer credits may not be applied to HUB requirements! HUB classes must be taken at Boston University.

BU encourages transfers to live on campus and offers guaranteed housing for transfer students for the duration of their degree. However, unlike first-years, transfer students are not required to live on-campus.

Apply for need-based aid at BU by completing the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.
